I took a poll at our family Bible study recently, “Why Aren’t More Believers Living The Life He Promised?” Here are some of the answers that were shared –
Some are not real Christians
It’s more natural to do what we want than what He wants
It’s easier to do the wrong thing
The devil
Pride and selfishness
We live in a broken world
What do you think?
I think that it’s because we are not desperate for Him. I think it’s because we don’t seek Him as if our lives depended upon Him. We are so distracted in this age of distractions. We try to fill needs only He can fill with people, stuff and activities.
Luke, Jesus’ disciple shares some interesting examples of people desperate to see Jesus. The guy who was paralyzed got His friends to take him up to the roof of the house where Jesus was visiting and lower him down in the middle of the room. The woman with the issue of blood sacrificed her reputation to just get close enough to Him so she could touch His clothes. Zacchaeus, a prominent tax guy climbed up in a tree just to get Jesus’ attention. These people were driven to find Him and they found Him faithful in their desperate search for Him. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” He wants to be sought by us. And the bigger we make Him, the bigger He’ll become.
Let’s seek Him this week as if our lives depended upon Him, and experience the true life that only He can give.
