Where's your trust? When the pressure builds and you're under fire, how do you react? Did you know that your response can pinpoint where you place your trust?
Recently at work, an incident occurred which led me to feel an array of emotions, from anger, to insecurity, to fear and then extreme anxiety. After spending too much time re-hashing the experience, and feeling more debilitated by my negative emotions, I decided to do what I tell my clients to do, go to Jesus with it. I asked for His truth to illuminate my doubt and for His strength to overcome my weakness. Instead of looking at the circumstance, I started looking at Him and His exhaustive list of attributes - provider, protector, refuge, strength, comforter, counselor, friend. I did not feel immediate relief, but the more I kept my mind on Him, affirming His sufficiency, the more I forgot about my dilemma. As I began to put my trust in Him, the more peace I felt.
It doesn't matter how much head knowledge you have about God, when the storm comes, your real beliefs about Him will surface. Do you believe He is in control? Do you believe He supplies all your needs? Do you believe He is your refuge and strength, your protector? Next time you have a strong negative reaction to something, thank Him for the opportunity to seek His truth. It will set you free.
